Islamabad (PTI): Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud, blamed by Pakistan government for masterminding former premier Benazir Bhutto's assassination, has vowed to "destroy" Britain and the US and said President Pervez Musharraf would be taught a lesson for being a "slave" of the West.
Mehsud, who has denied involvement in Bhutto's killing, outlined his goals in an interview with 'Al-Jazeera' at an undisclosed location in northwestern Pakistan. The reclusive Taliban commander did not allow his face to be shown in the footage aired by the channel.
"Our main aim is to finish Britain, the US and to crush the pride of the non-Muslims," he said. "We pray to God to give us the ability to destroy the White House, New York and London. And we have trust in god. Very soon, we will be witnessing jehad's miracles."
Mehsud, who spent about 25 minutes with Al-Jazeera's Islamabad bureau chief for his first TV interview, described Musharraf as a tool of US President George W Bush and said he was not interested in targeting Pakistan's nuclear weapons.
"Musharraf is no more than a slave to Bush and the non-believers," said Mehsud. "He started attacking mosques, killing women, children, the elderly inside the mosques. What pushed him to do this was his will to satisfy Bush. But now we are saying that Musharraf has committed crimes against Muslims and he has destroyed mosques and our response will be much harder than his acts.
"We will teach him a lesson which history will write with gold...God willing, Musharraf will be in severe pain. And all those who helped him will be in pain."
Mehsud asserted that the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, comprising over 20 groups from northwestern Pakistan, had been formed to fight Pakistan Army as well as the US and Britain.
"The main objective of this coalition is a defensive jehad," he said.
