Awn Chaudhry and Abdul Aleem Khan, two former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, reportedly denied rumours that they were starting a new political party on Sunday, according to sources.

Since Saturday, there have been rumours that former PTI leaders who left the party are organising a new political party and having talks (January 7).

Several prominent leaders from central and southern Punjab, including Aleem, were reportedly joining the new party, according to sources.

Jahangir Tareen, Aleem, or Chaudhry Sarwar, all former PTI leaders, are “not launching a new political party,” Chaudhry emphasised.

“We currently support the government and are a part of it. The Tareen group is and will continue to be a supporter of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) “said Chaudhry. He claimed that no new political party is being formed by the members.

Khan brushed them off as “baseless,” asserting that “the rumours about my role in establishing a new political party are untrue.”

”I get along well with Chaudhry Sarwar and Jahangir Tareen, but there are no political overtones,” he continued.

Aleem declared, “I am not a member of any political party and do not have any intentions to become one,” adding that he is friendly with former PTI officials Chaudhry Sarwar and Jahangir Tareen but has no desire to get involved in politics.

He claimed that at the moment, his only concentration is leading a foundation for people’s well-being and working in the social sector.

Sources claim that prominent political heavyweights have recently been enlisted to launch a new political party that would try to challenge Punjab’s ruling PTI.

According to reports, initiatives are being made to unite angry PTI leaders. Prominent families from Central and South Punjab have been invited to several interactions and meetings that have already been set up.

According to media sources, south Punjabi lawmakers who had joined the PTI after the elections were dissatisfied with the party’s leadership for a variety of reasons.

There were rumours that these lawmakers would even skip a Punjab Assembly vote of confidence against PTI ally and Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi, which would highlight a rift within the party.
